I almost always forget about holidays, and end up kicking myself when I see other people here have put together fitting works that are funny, touching, or just plain awesome. This time, though, someone happened to remind me that Valentine's Day is on Monday (I will be on a plane - whoo hoo) so I seized the opportunity to do some Legend of the Five Rings work to match it - particularly, some Winter Court art.
In Rokugan, a world so stiff and starched and proper, I think that intimacy is represented by the human touch. Here, on the last day of Winter Court, Daidoji Juri and Utaku Hidaki say farewell through a private moment that allowed that contact for a moment. Juri's hands, scarred from her work as a swordmaker, had always been a source of shame for her, and many people likewise feared Hidaki's facial scars, earned during the War of Dark Fire, so I felt that showing them sharing even those damaged parts of one another was the best way to represent things properly.
It's possible that, after Court ended, they never saw one another again.
